Our 23-year-old scholar Carlos Correa, a Mechanical Engineering student at the USB, was awarded in the Formula SAE USB Costs category along with his team. This project helps pushing a group of students to the limit, at all levels: stress, responsibility, and fun.
For many, it is a student group, but for more than 300 people it is a family, a dream, and a successful goal that changed their lives.
This year, due to the limitations brought by the Covid-19 pandemic, Formula SAE Michigan decided to divide the competition into two parts. The first part of the competition, called Knowledge Event 2021, was integrated by three virtual tests: Presentation Event, cost event, and design. The second part, Formula SAE Validation Event, starts the run and data collection period of the prototype to be sent to Michigan.
The Presentation Event evaluates the business organization, objectives, sales proposals, and management of a company. It was held on February 4th of 2021 online and they achieve 31st place out of 136 universities.
In the Cost Event, they focus on the cost of the vehicle, the construction process, and the components it carries from the economic point of view for a car company. It took place on April 20th of 2021, achieving 4th place in this competition.
And finally, the Design Event simulates a design department that presents itself to the CEO and the team of an engineering company. It was presented on April 22nd of 2021, obtaining the 36th position out of 136 universities.
After the successful participation in each of these stages, Simón Bolívar University’s Formula SAE is ranked 16th in the Overall Results.
After celebrating these achievements, the student team is currently in the second period and expressed: “Learning is in overcoming adversities”.
Without any doubt whatsoever, they are willing to leave the name of their university, the country, and each of their sponsors sky-high.
